Skydiving for fun
| Once you complete your training jumps and get the other qualifications to get an "A" licence then you can start to think about skydiving as a fun sport. Initially you are still under the supervision of your instructors but now you have some freedom to go up for a "fun" jump and just freefall without having to worry about whether you meet the standard to pass the jump stage. |

By now (hopefully) you are well versed in height awareness (still the most important thing on every jump) and you may be preparing to buy your own equipment and do the conversion jumps to use it.
Don't rush these early stages of enjoying skydiving, there is still lots to learn. You can now start dreaming of what you would like to do as you learn more about this sport and you see all the "skygods" going up and down all day following their particular interests.
- Do you want to just do this for fun, jumping with friends, organising formation skydives, perhaps with a camera?
- Is it freefly, formation skydiving, canopy formation or freestyle that attracts you?
- Would you like to get into the competition aspect of the sport?
Perhaps you like to travel. Skydiving is an international sport with dropzones all over the world (as well as all over Australia). Just turning up at a new DZ is a sure way to meet new people with similar interests and once you have jumped with them they are almost certain to become new friends.

Anyway, you can be sure that as you progress though the licence stages (A, B, C, D, E, and F) you will find many interests you never thought of when you decided to do that first jump.
And for many jumpers there is the attraction of both giving something back as well as learning a new career by gaining qualifications to become a professional skydiver or instructor.
2006 - In Thailand the record was set for the largest formation - 400 skydivers linked together. There were 11 Australian skydivers involved in this World Team.
2007 - Lake Wales, Florida the world record was set for most open canopies linked together, with 100 canopies making a formation.

How do you get started?
- Find your nearest drop zone through our drop zone listing: click here
- Call them or jump on their website and have a look at the options available for your first jump course
- Do your Accelerated Freefall (AFF) course and achieve your 'A' licence
- Complete your B-Rels - a table designed to teach you how to fly relative to others - and achieve your 'B' licence
- Accomplish your 'Star Crest', your licence to jump with more than 10 people
- Where to from here is unlimited...
