Final events of the World Parachuting Championships come to a close

The last of the World Champs events have come to a close, and with 6 Aussies competing in the Style and Accuracy events, the representation in Montenegro was fantastic!

The weather left a lot to be desired as the Champs begun with rain, heat and wind, making for formidable accuracy conditions, but it held togther for long enough to hold 7 rounds of both Individual and Team Accuracy, as well as 5 rounds of Style.

ROBBIE MCMILLAN WINS BRONZE IN THE CANOPY PILOTING ACCURACY EVENT!!

3rd FAI World Canopy Piloting Parachuting Championships - Kolomna, Russia Aug 2010

In the week leading up to the World Canopy PIloting Parachuting Championships, peat fires in the Moscow area were reducing visibility to only 20 metres on a bad day, and around 200 metres on a good day. The problem was so extreme that embassies were evacuating people from Moscow, and major airports were being closed down.

These were exactly the kind of issues that the canopy pilots didn't need. The Aussie canopy pilots were trying to stay positive, when only days before the event was to kick off, and still no one had done a single training jump.

They woke to the first official day of comp to find "clear" skies, and it was on!

Robbie scored a 100 in round 2 of the accuracy event, and by round 3, he had secured a bronze for the event!

Congratulations, Robbie!

Out of the 60 international jumpers in the competition, we had 2 Aussie representatives in the top 10 overall, with Cameron Rolfe placing 5th in the Speed event!!

      • Cameron Rolfe - 10th

TEAM OOKOONONO WIN SILVER AT THE 14th FAI WORLD CANOPY FORMATION PARACHUTING CHAMPIONSHIPS!!

The only Australian representatives to compete at Menzelinsk, Russia have won silver at the 2010 World Championships! They have also set a new Australian record for longest sequence with 22 formations in time.

Team Ookoonono broke their own Australian record not once, but twice before taking the silver to Team USA 2, but beating Russia, the champions of the 2008 World Champs.

In an ironic twist, Team USA 2 includes Chris Gay, Team Ookoonono’s favourite international coach and mentor.

The Team has invested in this dream in every respect: financially, personally and socially...so we are all very excited that they have achieved such a fantastic result and proud that they are there representing our nation in this sport!

Congratulations Jules McConnel, Michael Vaughan and Craig Bennett!
