Important Update: 2011 Sport Development Funding Budget Exhausted

The APF has been pleased to support a variety of positive member initiatives this year through its Sport Development Funding (SDF) program. Having received a particularly high volume of worthy applications throughout the year, we regret to advise that the SDF budget for 2011 has now been exhausted. As such we will not be able to accept any further funding applications for 2011.  Thank you to all members who have submitted applications this year, we applaud you on your efforts to improve our sport!

Applications for events scheduled for 2012 are now open and we encourage you to apply as early as possible in the year to avoid disappointment.

For more information on Sport Development Funding please click here to visit our website or contact the APF Development Officer.

Administrative Updates

Rating Holder Renewal Reminder

Quarterly reminders for Rating Holders are being sent out this week to encourage members to renew Display Licences and revalidate Instructor Ratings well before they expire on the 31st  of December. Applying early could avoid delays over the very busy period leading up to Christmas.

Notice of APF Board Meeting

The APF Board Meeting will  be held at the National Office on the 16th and 17th of November.

Technicals, Safety and Rigging

From Vigil's FB page
" Vigil PSB-8 is an update that replaces our recent PSB-7. Vigil PSB-8 includes better guidance and compliance requirements, as well as expanded serial numbers to be checked for October 07 cutters.
Only those cutters found with an OCT 07 manufacture date on the cutter itself must be replaced. We have received some cutters with Sept and Nov 07 dates. September and November 07 cutters would only require the magnet test be performed. As always, please feel free to contact us (Vigil) with any questions."

NEW!! Advanced Aerospace Designs (AAD) Vigil Emergency PSB-8 Issued October 20, 2011

(Supersedes Vigil PSB-7)

EXCERPT ONLY. CLICK HERE FOR FULL PSB-8

Mandatory:  before next jump
Identification:  Vigil AAD, All Cutters produced in October 2007
 Background:
This SB-8 revises SB-7 to include additional serial numbers (see list B) and to add additional guidance for compliance requirements.

The following incident occurred on the 14th September 2011 at the Saint-Jean Chrysostome (Canada) drop zone: A skydiver failed to deploy his main canopy and manually pulled his reserve handle with insufficient altitude to fully deploy the reserve canopy. During the investigation of the incident it was discovered that the loop was neither cut nor trapped by the cutter

On the 22-23 Oct the 2011 WA State Championships in 4 way and the Dave Lock State accuracy were held at Hillman Farm Skydivers DZ at Darkan WA. There were two teams each in FS Open and Intermediate, plus 14 Sport accuracy competitors.

Hillman's first State Meet for over ten years was well organised with 18 loads completed on the Saturday that included three of the six rounds of 4 way and all three rounds of accuracy, before the weather called it at 9.00am on the Sunday morning.

Although a small turnout, the competitive spirit was running hot with Jeremy Langford, the State Coaching Co-ordinator, doing a great job of coaching all the teams. The whole competition was run out of a GA8 Tubo Airvan supplied by WA skydiving Academy.

The winners were:

4 Way Open. Gold - Airtite, Silver - Righty Tighty

4 Way Inter. Gold - Hillman Cidal Tendencies, Silver - Winners & Grinners

Novice Accuracy. Gold - Bruce Jensen, Silver - Ursula Kelly, Bronze - Debbie Murphy

Open Accuracy. Gold - Ashley Gen¨¨ve, Silver - Ashley Saunders, Bronze - Mark Lush

The Lee Irvine shield, awarded for the person or team that personifies what the competition is all about, was awarded to the Hillman Cidal Tendencies team. The special Team Player award, of a new Dytter, donated by Skydive Kalbarri, was awarded to Adam Easto.

A Big thank you to WA Skydiving Academy, Skydive Jurien Bay, Southern Skydivers, Jeremy Langford & Airtite, Skydive Kalbarri, the APF, the WAPC council and the staff and volunteers at Hillman Farm who all gave assistance and support to make it a combined DZ effort and a success for all WA jumpers.

Skydivers enjoying the view over Coffs Harbour at the Afterlife Boogie

26th-30th October 2011, yet another great Afterlife Boogie (no.4) hosted by Coffs City Skydivers, Coffs Harbour, Mid North Coast, NSW.

An eager 80 skydivers registered for the event. A few days of rain and cloud were soon forgotten with 3 days of free flying, atmo/angles and wingsuiting, making for awesome fun!!!! The vibe was infectious, the excitement intense and friendships were made that will last forever.

International guest Rob Heron - Freefly, and other great coaches like Genetix - Tyler Baird & Mason Corby - Atmo, Brad Ward & Hayden Galvin 5D were on hand sharing their knowledge and wingsuit skills, Attila Csizmadia from Icarus Canopies - FS coaching.

The Boogie ended with a fantastic aerial display over Coffs Harbour with parachutists landing on the Jetty Beach to a crowd of a thousand onlookers.

Come and join in next year!

Coffs City Skydivers would like to thank the APF and all our sponsors for their continued support. Without this our extraordinary event would not be possible.

Thank you!

Check out the Facebook page and more great links publicising this successful event in the Media Watch section of the broadcast.

Aussies in Arizona

An Australian contingent has just completed an intensive FS training camp at Skydive Arizona. Two Open FS 4way teams plus a few extra individuals completed seven days of tunnel coaching plus jumping with ground coaching.

The teams training were; WTFS (Greg Jack, Shirley Cowcher, Helen Mahoney) and Valkyries (Kate Langley, Kate Rogers, Riss Anderson, Michelle Hales), plus Ben Nordkamp, Allan Gray and Darren Forfar. The teams were enthusiastically coached by Mark Kirkby and other members of Arizona Airspeed and received a very warm welcome from all at the DZ.

As the Aussies were leaving, Skydive AZ was getting ready for the US Nationals and many teams from all over the world were arriving and warming up for competition. Over 60 teams were expected to register for the event.

Certificate IV in Training & Assessment Enrolments Still Open

The Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40110) is a nationally recognised qualification for anyone who is operating in a training and/or assessing capacity within their organisation, or anyone wishing to become a lecturer at an Australian TAFE College.

With this in mind the APF is in the process of having instructor training courses accredited with the Australian Skills Qualifying Authority with the aim of becoming a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). It is envisaged that with the accreditation of the courses the APF may be able to issue:

Certificate III in Skydiving and Parachuting Instruction                    Instructor C
Certificate IV in Skydiving and Parachuting Instruction                    Instructor B
Diploma in Skydiving and Parachuting Instruction.                            Instructor A

As part of this process future candidates for Instructor A are encouraged to complete a TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and assessment. This can be accomplished as a body of work in lieu of the thesis. Holders of current instructor ratings will receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) of up to 55% should they use Meta Dynamics, the RTO working with the APF. For more information or to enrol in their TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, click here.

Although there are other RTOs that offer this qualification, prices vary as does the quality of the providers so choose carefully.
